Dear brothers and sisters of the Reformed faith,

Both Richard Gaffin and John Owen seek to prove the continuance of the Sabbath into the New Covenant from Hebrews 4. Yet, each one takes a very different approach to vv. 9-10. Could someone who has the mad exegesis skills explain these two interpretations and tell me which one is the right one?

I have done some work on this topic and I have a question, especially for those who line up with Owen on Hebrews 4:10. I am wondering if Owen's position unnecessarily drives a wedge between God's rest and Christ's rest, by interpreting "he who has entered his rest" in 4:10 to be Christ. Should we separate Christ's rest from the rest that God has had "from the foundation of the world" (4:3)? Christ is God. For this reason, I lean towards Gaffin's position, which can be found at http://opc.org/GA/sabbath.html.
