| | | God's opinion on accidental murder
Just a short question,
Can anyone help me with what is the bilblical response to 'accidental' murders? Things like death resulting from careless driving etc?
Is there a biblical distinction between different degrees of negligence, for example between drunk driving and ' i just took my eyes of the road for a second'?

Look at the OT passages that deal with the goring oxe and the flying axe head. It differentiates between accidental and purposeful neglect.
For instance I have to stop suddenly in my car and my brakes go out and I injure/kill someone. That could be accidental. Now, let's say that I knew I had bad brakes and I have just failed to get them fixed. Now I would say that I was guilty of murder. Makes me sober to think that preventative car maintenance can actually be viewed as fulfilling the general equity of the OT Mosaic judicial laws.

The cities of refuge appointed in Joshua were for those who committed involuntary manslaughter.

Just noticed an irony on this thread:
God's opinion under the Law of God forum.
