As I write this my Shitzu is licking my leg (for some reason he likes me; he really does). He daily comes up on the couch, lightly taps my leg, requesting me to pull up my sweatpants, so that he can lick. Yes, there is nothing like the unconditional affection of a dumb animal after the ego bruising experiences of high level conflicts and difficult decisions at work. And, when you feel as if you were not at your best in dealing with some of the insoluble problems, a good dog is a special gift of God's common grace. MacDoggie also sleeps with my wife and me even though he is technically our youngest's pet. Last year he appeared at the California reception for our older daughter who was married in the midwest. Of course he wore a tuxedo.
