John Wayne was born in Winterset, Iowa on May 26, 1907, 100 years ago today.
He moved to California with his parents in 1911, when he was 4.
From 1926 to 1976, he appeared in 8,284,671 westerns and 485,347 war movies.
Even today, nearly 30 years after his death, he still ranks in the top three in polls of all-time favorite movie stars.
He is buried in Newport Beach, California.
