Are you kidding? I missed the 80s. Or rather, they missed me, I think.
I have a huge blank hole in my cultural knowledge regarding the 80s. I was in my 20s and 30s in that decade, and I was either working in the Middle East or working in the American West, out in desolate plains without TV and only a shortwave radio that could pick up J. Vernon McGee and maybe some foreign language broadcasts late at night.
All I know culturally from the 80s is what I gleaned from a Jerry Jeff Walker album, a couple of Jimmy Buffett tapes, and what I could learn from reading news magazines. I ran across a cultural reference I didn't understand involving a Wendy's ad and the poor choice of Presidential candidates: (Specifically, a several month old Newsweek issue titled "Where's the Beef?")
Speaking of beef, I did know, from reading Beef magazine ("the official magazine of the National Stockgrowers Association"), that mad cow disease was a concern in Britain as early as 1983 and, from a Climatology journal of the era, that global warming concern had displaced global cooling concern among the cutting edge prognosticators.
That, and I started law school. I vaguely remember something about Reagan being president and that Larry Hagman had gone evil and was shot. He should have stuck with Jeannie. . . .

Did you know there was an earlier thread with this same video? Does stealing a thread idea count under the 8th Cmd?
Stealing is sooooo 80s....

Stealing is sooooo 80s.... | I was unaware of this, and if the intent was not to steal, then it may not be properly called stealing. It would be nice, however, to have Board Omniscience so I could have avoided "stealing" someone's thread. And I'm also quite sure that video is for widespread free distribution. | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Joshua For This Useful Post: | |

I miss the 80s, but i wouldn't want to go back to the crazy neon-colored shirts with giant shoulder pads that I wore back then. I remember back in the 80s that I thought how strange it was that other decades had a distinctive look, but the 80s people were just being real and normal without a specific look. Wow... I must have been blind!

I don't miss it. I'm glad it's gone. I know you can say this about any decade, but what the heck were they/we thinking??? - Horrible clothes. Absolutely horrible.
- Corny music. But yes, much is (embarrassing to admit) fun to listen to.
- The movies were pretty good, especially those in the vein of John Hughes (R.I.P.).
- TV was OK. A number of quality, wholesome shows that have staying power today, but not my favorite TV decade.
- Did I mention how bad the clothes were?
My main point is this...the only decent things that the 1980s produced are things that you can still access today. Pop in a VHS or a mixed tape and reminisce.

Yeah, I do kinda' miss my purple passion lipstick, baby blue eyeshadow, and my fringed jean jacket. However, I don't miss my acid wash jeans because they are back in style again and I bought a pair at the beginning of the summer.

I don't get the responses. People talk about missing the 80's as if it in the past. I'm still living the dream right now with my mullett, T-top Pontiac Firebird rocking REO Speedwagon and Debbie Gibson in a pair of shredded jeans. It's totally awesome.

No! Awful fashion era that should be laid to rest. Music not so good either.
Now, the 90's that's a different story. Wasn't that whole grunge era awesome?

I was in the 80s for about two months of my life, so I don't miss it all that much. Oh, and there were actually two previous threads about the video.

First of all, the 80's were totally radical (and still are). I still listen to the music and consider it to be some of the best there is (Handel, Vivaldi and Bach not included in that statement, mind you). The movies were totally cool, too. (Talk about your dirty secrets...)
I thought things took a real dive in the next ten years - what's grunge, anyway? Nihilistic youth with lots of guitar distortion and an equal amount of angst - that's the 90's. I worked out to Alice in Chains and Soundgarden in the early 90's because it was so easy to push more weights when the music makes you angry.

I went from junior high to married in the 80s. I have to split the difference here - 1980 to early 1984 really stunk. No redeeming qualities there at all. June of 1984 to July of 1986 was work, party, work, party. August 16th, 1986 my life changed forever when God arranged things so that I would first lay eyes on my wife. The happiest day of my life was January 9, 1988 because that's the day we got married. I guess I miss from 1984 on.

The 80's were totally excellent. I know of nothing more gnarly and tubular than the 80s. What was most excellent about the 80s? Why the incredibly radical clothes, the most triumphant music, and trunkicular commercials of awesomeness. The 80's were by far the most cool-o-rama phat decade...ever. In my humble opinion, the 80's took human civilization to the max.

You youngsters!
The era you missed, and what I miss the most, was the 50's.
Elvis Presley, poodle skirts and petticoats worn with cashmere sweaters and matching socks, dating dudes driving heavily chromed and hot-rod 450 HP cars, and spending Friday nights at drive-in movie theatres!
Those were the days!

Actually I'd prefer the 60's.
But speaking of the 80's, yes, I miss them but not for the reasons stated above. I'll not get into details (they aren't bad) but if I had made just one decision differently back then my life would be totally different now. Let's just say I wouldn't be concerned about looking for a full-time church now. -----Added 8/12/2009 at 12:03:16 EST----- Quote:

What I remember most about the '80s is how the church was secretly raptured and how I was left behind and didn't become a Christian until 1988. But I forget who the Anti-Christ was...

Totally miss the 80s. My profile picture is of me at age 4 dressed in my neon dragon fly sweatsuit outfit, my uncle's Raybans, some hypercolor hair ties, and a neon orange teddy bear. It is awesome. Plus, my ring tone is the keyboard solo from Take on Me by Aha. Don't even get me started on my jellies.

No, but I occasionally miss my 20s--which was the 80s for me! Still, so far, my 40s has been my BEST Decade yet--overall.
