Movie Soundtracks

For those of you who enjoy this sort of thing, what are your favorite soundtracks or composers of soundtracks? I am partial to those with stirring, noble strains, so I like...

almost anything by Hans Zimmer, but especially the soundtrack to Crimson Tide.

Titanic, by James Horner

Rocky, by Bill Conti

Gettysburg, by Randy Edelman

I don't normally listen to this kind of music, but I'd think Braveheart ought to have a good soundtrack.

I loved the soundtrack to Requiem for a Dream, even though I'd never recommend watching the movie to anybody.

Couple of others:
Donnie Darko
Braveheart
The Mission (well, really anything by Ennio Morricone)
Last of the Mohicans

I thoroughly loved the Batman Begins and Pirates of the Caribbean soundtracks (James Newton Howard, Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt), along with the Bourne films. Those are some great soundtracks.

OBWAT is one of the best. In a completely different vein, but outstanding to say the least, is the soundtrack to The Mission.

I love soundtracks! Soundtracks are what I tend to listen to most. As for all time favourites:

Hans Zimmer is usually always awesome. I've been listening to his Kung Fu Panda soundtrack and I love it. His new Batman soundtracks are just as good as Danny Elfman’s. Honourable mention must go to Crimson Tide, Rock and Lion King soundtracks as well, but most stuff by him rocks.

Klaus Beldt is good to. I love his K-19 soundtrack and his Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack as well. I also love what Hans Zimmer did with Klaus Beldt's themes in the 2 sequels.

Brian Tyler is also my type of composer. Loud, intense, and lots of brass! I rarely watch the movies he composes for, the only one being Timeline, but I also love his Darkness Falls soundtrack and Alien Vs. Predator Requiem soundtrack. Timeline is my favourite of the three.

Jerry Goldsmith's Rudy soundtrack will always have a special place in my collection. I've watched this movie a gazillon times and have watched since I was young. All the themes have sentimental value. Also, Goldsmith's contribution to Star Trek is legendary.

I've always loved Alan Menken which is probably because I've been listening to him since I was a kid. His Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin soundtracks still stand out as awesome!

Danny Elfman's soundtracks I have always loved. Batman, Beetlejuice, Spiderman and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory stand out.

Finally, and no soundtrack list should be without this one, is John Williams. He is the composer of our time creating melodies that live in the collective public mind. Soundtracks such as Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, Jaws and Harry Potter stand out. But also Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, 1941, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Amistad.

There are many more soundtracks that I love but if I wrote everything this post would take me all day! But the above are some of my major favourites (:

Awesome soundtrack - listen to it a lot. But I noticed that the tracks in the movie are not the same on the CD, viz. I'll Fly Away. I like 'em both.

The soundtrack to The Big Lebowski is great - has Dylan and Kenny Rogers back when he did rock 'n roll.

The movie "Juno" has a good album - I think they made two discs.

Last, the soundtrack to Northern Exposure (if anyone remembers the show). A few songs took a bit of growing on me but I enjoy the entire album.

Great thread!

I love the soundtrack from 'The Mission' by Ennio Morricone. I also liked Morricone's spaghetti westerns such as 'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' as well as a 'fistful of Dolllars' wghich is also my mobile phone's ringtone.

I liked James Horners Titanic and the battle of the banjos from 'Deliverance' But the one that is the hardest to beat is 'The Great Escape'

I like The Lord of the Rings soundtracks by Howard Shore. The soundtracks to Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Pirates of the Caribbean, Master and Commander, etc. are all good as well.

The original Star Wars movies (IV-VI) are an excellent choice.
