I don't think a voice like Charlotte Church's can do Rossini real justice. Here is a performer who can (Juan Diego Florez) | | The Following User Says Thank You to py3ak For This Useful Post:

Can I add my favorite from Rossini? This gets truly glorious further in.

"Christ has done great things for his people, and he has suffered great things for his people, and he has purchased great things for his people, and he has prepared great things for his people; yet many of his own dear people are so taken up with their own hearts, and with their own duties and graces, that Christ is little eyed by them or minded by them! This is the great reason why so many Christians, who will certainly go to heaven—do walk in darkness, and lie down in sorrow." - Thomas Brooks | | The Following User Says Thank You to Laura For This Useful Post:

Her recording of Il Barbiere with Plácido Domingo is not to be missed. By the way, the picture of her in the gold dress is actually from Semele.

Here are two of the world's great singers enjoying singing Rossini.
I suppose neither of them needs any introduction. But the first time I heard Cecilia Bartoli gracefully roar sciotto! tu ridi was one of the highlights of my life.

And this is my favorite Kathleen Battle and Rossini combination. From Il Signor Bruschino. In my estimation, no one could have done this better.
4:22-24 is Kathleen Battle's finest moment.

They do seem to be enjoying themselves, despite the music—that sounds like an extremely hard piece to sing!

That gala concert must have been quite something. While the selections can be enjoyed on the CD entitled Cecilia and Bryn, seeing the video does add something. I think almost all of it is on Youtube, including the best La Ci Darem la Mano I have ever heard.

And Cecilia Bartoli, demonstrating that she is the successor of Isabella Colbran, and then some. |
