| | | FORMER Christian rocker crosses over
in more ways than one. Katy Perry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HER single "I kissed a girl" is number one in the nation. Her demographic? Young teen girls.
This is sad but perhaps it will open some eyes about what is behind some of what passes as Christian music.

Well, to be fair, she never really ever was a "Christian" rocker. Releasing a go nowhere "gospel" album as your first attempt at 16 years old doesn't really put one in that category...at least not in my opinion. Being a child of "two pastors", it isn't surprising that her first chance to do anything would be in that arena.
Obviously she did exactly what she was truly wanting to do a couple of years later as soon she was an adult and able to do so.

Right now, acting like an adult means figuring out what God has next for her. That includes searching for a new record label. When asked what God has been teaching her lately, Katy admits she’s been working her way out of a dry season in her Christian life.
“I went through a really slow time,” she said. “My music wasn’t happening. We were planning on taking a break for a while because the whole record label thing didn’t really work out. I felt just kind of slow in everything, and my relationship with God slowed down. I didn’t crack my Bible for days, for months probably.”
So what changed? According to Katy, God used “Reality” to wake her up. “Reality” is a group in Santa Barbara that meets every Friday night. Hundreds of college kids get together to hear the truth of the gospel—as told by a local surfer. Most recently, this dude’s messages encouraged Katy to give to herself the same grace that God has already given her.
“I need to start learning to live in forgiveness and grace. It is really unfortunate not to live in forgiveness and instead live in regret and remorse and guilt. You never get the meat of Christ,” Katy said. “I’m learning to live in that and learning to remember that I’m not supposed to be perfect. I’m supposed to keep growing, but my knees are all scraped up, I guess.”
| Sounds like she got a better offer from a secular record label and had the 'grace' to accept it.
Looked like she was homeschooled by her two pastor parents as well.

I've been to Reality before in Santa Barbara, and I will never forget it. While I am not someone who likes loud music all the time in worship, the music and lyrics was incredibly God-centered, and the sermon was very well done. One of the things Reality tries to be is an alternative for UCSB Christians to go to, instead of the on campus ministries (Crusade, InterVarsity, etc). I don't know if they still do this, but a few years ago, they were doing verse by verse study of the NT.

This is why I have so much respect for Bryan Duncan. With his voice he could have been a hit machine in the secular music biz but has been faithful through 4 different decades to stick to songs about Christianity. He sings boldly about Jesus Christ even when he could make much more money by not doing so.
I remember an interview with him one time when he was talking about the days with Sweet Comfort Band when they went on a national tour with Three Dog Night. They thought they were going to change the world because they were going to be able to witness to thousands of people at their concerts. He was dismayed when that didn't happen. Nevertheless, he has stuck to his guns.
