Are there any Apocalyptica fans out there in PB land??
This is an amazing group of four Finnish Cello players who do "heavy metal".
Check it out...
Enjoy!

My wife and I are impressed with these guys cello playing. I can say neither of us have ever seen them played quite like that. Are all there songs only cello or is there vocals ?

I love these guys, as I love all metal (barring the bad, "mainstream" metal bands). I believe everyone else does too, as a strict affirmation of the genre is seen in all Reformed confessions.
But seriously, I hope I am not shunned for this.

Awesome. But I do have to cackle at the headbanging, etc. while holding cellos. They sound cool, but look ridiculous.

I've always liked the Metallica stuff with the SF Symphony.

It's a style of music that models an underlying depravity, and thus would be a honest portrayal of our Reformed perspective on human nature; however, I would not advise Christians to listen to that kind of music (even if it has no lyrics), since it is not edifying to the soul and is not intended to glorify God, anyway. Although, some Christian rock bands would be a lot worse since their lyrics carry false teachings, especially with a strong semi-Pelagian bent.

With that caveat out of the way, I now ask you: how can certain styles of music not be "edifying to the soul"? What kind of objective aspects of music can classify it as being non-Christian?
Further, regarding the purpose of glorifying God, I'm not sure if seeing what the artist's original intent was is a good idea. I believe that, as long as God is glorified through listening to the music, there's no problem. For example, what if there exists any extremely soothing, peaceful (instrumental) song that makes you think of heaven and God's presence, but it was written by an atheist? Would you consider that wrong for Christians to listen to?
