Music Discuss all things musical
Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the LORD on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals. (2 Sam 6:5)

The Amazing Melodies of Jeff Beck

Out of the many guitarists that came out of the 60's - Clapton, Page, Hendrix, Townshend, etc., Jeff Beck seems to be often overlooked. Yet, he's my favourite because no one really seems to be quite as melodic as him. What's especially fascinating is the way he seems to be able to channel a very 'vocal' way of playing the guitar. He doesn't even use a lot of fancy effects to get the sounds that he does...Eric Clapton once said of him, "With Jeff, it's all in his hands."

Here's "Where Were You", from the Guitar Shop album:

Vaughn,
That was a good listen. Thanks. I especially like the calypso piece.

I thought it was nice that he included the Amazing Grace song on his album, I liked it. I don't know much (anything) about Jeff Beck. Do you think he included it because its a nice song and he likes it, or does the grace the song is about have special meaning for him?

Jeff doesn't seem to be a spiritual person at all from what I can see in his interviews - so I suppose he just saw a good song that he wanted to take a stab at. Strange, because all his buddies - Santana, Clapton, Harrison, John McLaughlin, etc. - embraced some sort of spirituality, though of the heathen variety.

Jeff Beck was born in Wallington, England, on June 24, 1944 (just 18 days after D-Day!). So, he has just turned 64.
