What are the "deep things of Satan?"

While this seems like a dangerous question, given the context in Revelation 2, a good exegete needs to be aware of the context. I haven't found a satisfactory answer to this verse But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some call the deep things of Satan, to you I say, I do not lay on you any other burden

What I find interesting is that the 1c view of Satan seemed to be different from modern-or medieval views. Why would a church even consider that, given our understanding of the Devil?

Sounds like a reference to gnostic teachings.

I understand it to relate directly to the doctrine of the prophetess Jezebel. The great deception of using grace as a license for sin, or for a justification for not practicing holiness, nor expecting it of others. Many professers in our day fall victim to this. They lay hold of justification and deny its consequential work of sanctification, or practical holiness in the life of the believer. I understand the Bible to say they go hand in hand. Jezebel thought differently, as do many today, and because of this she and all who follow her doctrine will undergo the sentence laid upon them by Christ, pray they repent. Yet, this is not the commonly held view, so don't take it to the bank, as I would not at this point.

John Trapp says:

Quote:
That science falsely so called, 1 Tim. vi. 20. Those profound points, which the imposters professed and pretended to: as the Gnostics, who would needs be held the only knowing men; the Illuminates, and other seducers, who had taken up a trick to qualify their devilish doctrines with the name of depths or profundities. Depths they are granted to be, but depths of the devil; the whisperings and hissing of that old serpent, not the inspirations of God's Spirit.
