Intro to Philippians

How many of you in attendance are not from Maryland? What circumstances took place in your life that brought you here? For some of you the military may have been the vehicle God used to bring you the Capital region. Others, like me, came here because of marriage. Maybe school or a job was the cause. All of us are here for a reason. The great theologian Forest Gump said, “I don't know if we each have a destiny or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze…” While pop culture may believe that purpose is found only in the moment, the truth is that God has an immutable purpose, and to greater and lesser degrees He uses us in accomplishing that purpose.

The book of Philippians has its history in the book of Acts. It’s in Acts that God’s purpose in using Paul and his companions in the Macedonian region is made clear. It was a circuitous route that finally brought Paul to Macedonia, and then Philippi. Only a few years earlier Paul was climbing the corporate ladder of ritualistic Judaism that would have resulted in his reaching the pinnacle of his profession – the Sanhedrin. But a predetermined meeting on a road to Damascus changed the path of his life, and eventually brought him to Philippi.

Most of us here have traveled various paths in life. Is there a purpose to our journey, or are we all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze? To answer that question, let’s turn our attention to the Word of God.

Hi Bill

I have been praying for your preparation for tommorrow,I like the Intro alot esp. the last paragraph where you question the hearer if he has a God given purpose or just wanders about accidentally, and then it seems as though you will bring out how God in the Word Sovereignly Ordains all that will be in that persons life,I would love to sit under that teaching it sounds wonderful,

Are you still going to open up Chapter 12 of the LBCF for Sunday School?

Grace and Peace to you
