Questions about Isaiah 40:31

Isaiah 40:31 says that those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. What does it mean to wait upon the Lord? What are we supposed to do with the strength that the Lord gives us?

"There is a general principal here that patient, praying believers are blessed by God with strength in their trials...The Lord also expected His people to be patient and await His coming in glory at the end to fulfill the promises of natural deliverance, when believing Israel would become stronger than they had ever been." -John MacArthur

The cross does not give us a minor shift or two with regard to a few of our ethical and moral and religious values; the cross radically disrupts the very center and citadel of your life from self to Christ. —Albert N. Martin

The strength given to those who wait upon the Lord is for walking according to all that the Lord has commanded. This strength does not lie in us; it can only come from Christ.
