I need help with some terms

Was listening to an RTS lecture recently. The lecture was on OT prophets. The audio was poor in a place where the professor was describing a mode of prophecy the Israelites were allowed to use that was somewhat similar to the means used by other nations. The professor's point was that although most means of prophecy used by other nations were forbidden for Israel, this one particular means was not.

Because of the audio, I could only faintly hear two words that sounded like "aurim" and "thumim"...I could be completely misspelling these, but perhaps it is enough info that someone could know what he was saying? I'm supposing these words were referring to physical objects that were used by the Israelite priests.

Thanks!
