| a Hebrew text of Ecclesiasticus?!
In an aside in Edgar Gibson's introcution to his commentary on The Book of Job, [page xxviii]Gibson says, "The discovery of a portion of the original Hebrew of the book of Ecclesiasticus has recently revealed to us another instance of the discrepancy between the Greek and the Hebrew which in analogous to that which meets us in Job,..."
I have never seen a Hebrew translation of Ecclesiasticus. If memorary serves me right St. Jerome knew of no Hebrew for the book of Ecclesiasticus and the translation we find in the Vulgate is of the LXX.
One of our Protestant arguements for our Canon of the Old Testament is that the Apocrapha were late editions to the Old Testament with no Hebrew texts to back them up. If Gibson was aware of a Hebrew text for Ecclesiasticus more then one hundred years ago, why haven't our Romish friends trotted it out in responce to our objections?
