| | A wonderful section of Prayer from the 1662 BCP Revised.
....And lest through our own frailty, or the temptations which encompass us we be drawn again into sin; Vouchsafe us, we beseech thee, the direction and assistance of thy Holy Spirit. Reform whatever is amiss in the temper and disposition of our souls; that no unclean thoughts, unlawful designs, or inordinate desires may rest there. Purge our hearts from envy, hatred, and malice; that we may never suffer the sun to go down upon our wrath; but may always go to our rest in peace, charity, and good-will, with a conscience void of offence towards thee, and towards men; that we may be preserved pure and blameless, unto the coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. AMEN.

With seasonal prayers there are often certain Psalms which are read prior ,in this case : PSALM 111. |

Oh...woops, the Scripture Passage read with this is Jeremiah 9:17-24. Traditionally the Psalm (111 in this case) is read first, then the Prophetic passage listed then the Prayer. Nice reflection, this is called a "Collect" in the Anglican "cycle" we have series of prayers which in turn reflect the Scriptures on which we are focusing. Pax.

I need to get one of those like yours. | I THINK I gave my extra one away, I need another copy, as odd is it may sound Dr. Talbot of Whitefield Seminary asked if I had a copy of the newest edition, Dr. Talbot knows and admires a number of our clergy, in fact the book we give to new members "Outline of an Anglican Life" was written by Louis Tarsitano, (God rest his soul) who was a student of Dr. Talbot. Anyway, I will grab a copy, and shoot you one when I get my hands on 2 more copies, still need to shoot one to Dr. Talbot! (BLUSH)

Amen to the prayer.
The Book of Common Prayer is a masterpiece IMO. Not only liturgy, but literature as well.

Thanks for printing the prayer. It never ceases to amaze me how beautiful and how reverent the prayers are in the BCP.

We actually use the BCP as part of our family devotions at times. It really is a beautiful and God honoring work. It is shame that it has such a bad rap among many Reformed folks.
