| | | They Who Understand Scripture
Thomas Brooks: Quote: |
They that are in adversity, saith Luther, do better understand Scriptures; but those that are in prosperity, read them as a verse in Ovid.
| Jeremiah Burroughs: Quote: |
They that are afflicted understand Scripture, says Luther, but those who are secure in their prosperity read them as a verse in Ovid.
| Does anyone have the citation to the Luther reference? Thanks.

Hmmmm,
Thomas Brooks said in "Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices" Quote: |
Those who are in adversity do better understand Scriptures. The more saints are beaten with the hammer of afflictions, the more they are made the trumpets of God's praises, and the more are their graces revived and quickened.
| Can't find the Luther reference.

Perhaps Luther commented on Psalm 119.67, 71?
