Official Catechism Funnies/Profundities From Kids Thread

A recent thread was started about family worship, and it reminded me of how Chloë, not even a year ago, was growing in her grasp of words concepts, etc. It's a tad bittersweet how she has intellectually matured in this last year , but I am thankful to God for it.

Anyway ...

I thought it would be fun to have start a thread wherein we could highlight the funny, misunderstood, and oft profound things kids say during reflection on Family Worship/ Catechism Training/etc. I'll be adding a few.

Back from November, 2005:

Chloë, are there more gods than One?
No. There is only One true God.
In how many Persons does this One God exist?
In tw…three Persons.
Chloë, can you name the Three Persons?
Fawther, Son…and Holy Sirip (pronounced syrup).
I love that girl!

Originally from May of last year:

Last night during family worship, Chloe and I read about Noah and the Ark. We talked about how God told Noah to get two of each animals to put on the Ark. I suppose this got her little mind thinkin’ about animals all night. Anyway, this morning before church we were reading about the creation of Adam & Eve and the fall.

We read where God gave men dominion over all the animals. In order to explain dominionto her, I told Chloe (emphasis added), “God was telling Adam that all the animals were under him and that they could not rule over humans.” So we keep reading for a few sentences and all of a sudden Chloe stops me an asks, “Daddy, are giraffes real?”

Distracted, I responded, “Well, yeah they’re real.”

Chloe: “And they’re really big, aren’t they?”

Me: “Yes.”

Punchline from Chloe (emphasis added):

“So they could roll over us, couldn’t they?”

“rule over” to me was “roll over” to her.

I don't remember this, but my family tells me that when I was little and going through the children's catechism my answer to the question about the three Persons of the Trinity was "The Father, the Son, and the Holy bullet."

After doing the story of Rahab hiding the spies and the subsequent battle of Jericho at the family devotions, I asked "What did Rahab hang out to let the Israelites know her house?" Our middle one who was about four at the time thought for a moment before replying, "Her washing."

Teacher in catechism class at church: "Can you see God?"

One of the students: "No, I cannot see God, but He always sees me."

My 3 year old son pipes up and explains to the older children what that means: "God is teeny like a little bug that I can't even see. But I'm so big a little bug can always see me!"

Logic + finite mind = fail.

When my oldest (now 13) was three we were standing in line at McDonalds. I was holding her and we were waiting to order. As we waited she noticed a recruiting poster encouraging people to apply for a job at McDonalds.

The picture was of several people in McDonalds uniforms, an old man, a black woman, a hispanic teen, a blond girl, all standing in a group a grinning out at us with a dotted line cutout of a person in the centre of the group. The caption was "what is missing? You are! Apply today!" or some such.

My daughter looked at it for a moment, then she said "Look daddy, a picture of the Holy Spirit!" I looked at the poster for a second, then I asked "where, honey?" She (in an exasperated voice) "right There! See, he does not have a body as we do!"
