| | | Thomas Watson
I just got Watson's [i:dbe5b26b5e]A Body of Divinity, The Ten Commandments, & The Lord's Prayer.[/i:dbe5b26b5e] The only thing Watson that I've previously read is [i:dbe5b26b5e]A Godly Man's Picture[/i:dbe5b26b5e]. Any thoughts on my latest additions?

| | | A Body of Divinity
At present I am reading Watson's [u:0a722827f4]A Body of Divinity[/u:0a722827f4]. So far I am very happy to have looked into it. It is like a theology book, but it is written in a way that reminds me of Spurgeon. Some may disagree with that last statement, but I think I see some Watson influence in Spurgeon's writings.
Overall it is a great book that will stay in my library, or for that matter it will stay in that special stack of books beside my reading chair for years to come.
Excellent Choice.

I love Watson I am using Body of Divinity for a Sunday night Bible study class on the Shorter catechism. I have read everything I could find by Watson. I recently found a copy of a book he and Samuel Lee did together called The Bible and the closet on private devotions I can't wait to read it. :book:

You are not going to find many Puritans that as are experimental as Watson, but easy enough for understanding in today's church (So is Goodwin and much of Jeremiah Butrroughs (but Burroughs is VERY deep))). He is a winner in every book I ever read of him. I would encourage you to buy his book, "Heaven Taken by Storm." It is one of his best works. It is my wife's favorites.
Then buy his sermons, and some of the reprints by Soli Deo Gloria. Watson is top notch for introductory puritan literature and helping the Christian come closer to Christ practically.

There is more information on Thomas Watson's life (c. 1620 - 1686) and works to be found here. He was among the signers of the 1673 Puritan Preface to the Scottish Metrical Psalter. See this thread and others for some of his famous quotes.
He is one of my favorite Puritans.
