Rick, Upon seeing your post, I decided to purchase the book at a local "Christian Bookstore". I currently, have read all but the last two chapters. I think that it is fairly well written and is particularly interesting because he is a Baptist and makes an effort to point out that Southern Baptist in the South have a bad track record(see Chapter one). Also, as in so many cases, pietism is a great danger when dealing with this subject. I believe the author is aware of this danger and makes statements in the book about the critial link between Justification and Santification. The two, of course, are inseparatible. Any thoughts on your part?

I wonder if I can find it in New Zealand...

Evangelical Christians, says Sider, are very much like their non-Christian neighbors in rates of divorce, premarital sex, domestic violence and use of pornography, and are actually more likely to hold racist views than other people.
The author makes this statement, well the reviewer claims he does. Does anyone have actual statistics on these things etc... or if you have read the book does the author back this statement up with numbers? I would like to know them. I do believe the statement because of what I have seen in the church's around here but I would like some solid stats.

Fraser, I don't know anything more than what is stated in this book but once again, I'm not surprised.

I haven't read it. John Piper referred to it in a recent "Fresh Words" http://www.desiringgod.org/library/f...05/021605.htmlOriginally posted by rchapman

I wanted to know what others thought, who have read it, as I'm thinking about possibly ordering it myself.

Isn't Ron Sider something of a modernist and socialist? Have I been mis-informed about him?

Evangelical christians huh? Who, or what, does he define them as? The way I see it, you could define half the peoples of the USA as 'evangelical christians' because they go to church once in a while and believe in various doctrines.Originally posted by Abd_Yesua_alMasih
