| | | John Livingstone's Memorable Characteristics
Has anyone read John Livingstone's Memorable Characteristics, and Remarkable Passages of Divine Providence, exemplified in the Lives of some of the most eminent Ministers and Professors in the Church of Scotland (written in 1668)?
Alexander Whyte says: Quote: |
...but good John Livingstone, though not a great historian in other respects, is by far the best historian of that day for our purpose. John Livingstone´s Characteristics is a perfect gallery of spiritual portraits, and the two or three strokes he gives to Alexander Gordon make him stand out impressively and memorably to all who understand and care for the things of the Spirit.
| And Thomas Witherow says: Quote: |
The Memorable Characteristics is a short record of the history and character of various eminent Christians in Scotland and Ireland, many of whom be had personally known. In it he preserves various facts of, interest and personal traits, in regard to several individuals which otherwise would have been lost.
