An Interesting Tidbit from the Apocrypha

Baruch 5:1,2

Quote:
Put off, O Jerusalem, the garment of thy mourning, and affliction: and put on the beauty, and honour of that everlasting glory which thou hast from God. 2 God will clothe thee with the double garment of justice, and will set a crown on thy head of everlasting honour.
What do you think the double garment of justice is?

Vanities and disguises have covered us, and thereby we are naked; licenciousness hath inflam'd us, and thereby we are frozen; voluptuousness hath fed us, and thereby we are sterved, the fancies and traditions of men have taught and instructed us, and thereby we are ignorant.
John Donne

CHAPTER V.

Ver. 2. Garment. Hebrew, "cloak," (Sanctius) such as were worn by people under no disgrace, chap. iv. 20. Thamar had one very costly, 2 Kings xiii. 18. (Calmet) --- Justice, or mercy. God is bound to fulfill his gracious promises. (Worthington)

Ver. 3. His. Greek, "thy." Christ, the sun of justice, would effect this, Isaias lx. 1.

Ver. 4. Piety. Thus shall Jerusalem be distinguished after the captivity; but still more so when Christ shall appear, and give peace to his Church, after the ages of persecution.

Ver. 5. Arise. Chap. iv. 36., and Isaias lii. 2. --- God. They remember his law with pleasure.

Ver. 6. Children. Greek, "the throne." The return of the captives was a triumph, Isaias xlvi. 20., and xlix. 22. They had abundance of horses, &c., 1 Esdras ii. 66. Darius gave them a convoy of 1000 horsemen. (3 Esdras v. 2.) (Josephus, Antiquities xi. 4.)

Ver. 7. Diligently, without stumbling under the pillar of God's protection, Isaias xl. 3. (Calmet)

Ad vos qua veniet, tumidi subsidite montes

Et faciles curvis vallibus este viæ. (Ovid, Am. ii. 16.)

Ver. 8. Woods. This is a poetical description. They shall pass through the sands of Arabia, as if they were under a delightful shade.
Haydock Bible

It was the only info I could find.

Conscience may lash us, but it cannot replenish a languishing life. Conscience may be God's word and minister to you, telling you of your faults and your follies and your destitution. It may point out, but it will never supply you. Christ must give you new life. Hart has well expressed it: "He to the feeble and the faint, His mighty aid makes known; and when their languid life is spent, supplies it with His own." - J. K. Popham

I'm pretty sure that a 'double garment' is one that is double layered. Hence it is doubly warm, doubly strong and doubly perfect. In the case of justice it would be a twice perfect justice and more than sufficient to repair the affliction and mourning of the people.

I guess there might be more information in the Anchor Bible Commentary. [Hint, hint]
