Good volumes on the history of Europe?

I have Cantor's book on the Middle Ages, Barzun's on the past 500 years. What are some other good histories on Europe?

Not really my field (and to my regret a decade later), especially if you are looking for something covering long periods of time. But I think it's a safe bet that anything by Barzun would be worthwhile.

Maybe you should ask our pastor. His office seems to have as many history books as theology.
