Impersonating professors?

I am currently a full-time student at a college. Some of my professors have very distinct voices that are very easy to impersonate. Is it wrong to impersonate them for fun?

Yes, it would be rude to impersonate them. You would not be showing them the respect they deserve as your teachers.

Unless you consider imitation the sincerest form of flattery. I think the issue has less to do (though not nothing to do) with the form of imitation than its underlying motivation.

We had a professor of OT in my undergraduate university who had several endearing mannerisms that his favorite students would imitate with and without him as a sign of their affection.

So I'd say there is an honorable way to jovially imitate.

It mat be a haha to do it to them (if you already have a relationship with them) but don't do it outside their circle of friendship. That would be an insult or usurpation.

I imitate people all the time. I do it without realizing it - for instance, if I'm telling a story, I'll naturally imitate the voices of the people I'm talking about. I really think it depends on your intentions. If you're imitating them to mock them, then obviously that's wrong (because mocking is wrong.) If you're just telling a non-malicious story about them and happen to slip into their voice or persona, I think that's fine. Its the way you use the imitation, not the imitation itself that is the problem.

Like they said, it depends upon what you're doing when you impersonate them.

If you're calling the records office to change your grades, that's probably wrong.

I would continue provided it it is not in an offensive manner. I work with a guy who, whilst on the phone, impersonates the person he is talking to. I always find it hilarious particularly when he is talking to me!

Probably fine, so long as they are present at the time. After all, you really didn't want to get a passing grade, anyway, did you?
