Your next car tire?

I had to take my wife's car in today to get a slow leak plugged. When I got back, my Deputy said "...eventually you can get one of those airless tires so that won't be a problem anymore...."

What's that?

His parents live in South Carolina near the Michelin plant and I guess Michelin is getting ready to release a new airless tire soon. It's really cool looking.

I, for one, plan on getting some of these in the future. Very cool. I uploaded some pics so I could show them to you:

OK, so the important part... what is the cost?

That's a good question. I imagine they're smart enough to know that it better make economic sense to get one of these things. I don't know much else about it other than the pictures. The tread will still wear down but because there is no problem with tire inflation, we who are lazy won't have to worry about messing up our alignment as frequently or wearing down our tires more quickly because we're not regularly checking it. If the tire costs 20% more but lasts twice as long on average then it's definitely worth it.

If these things become more ubiquitous, it seems like there would be a collateral benefit to the reduced weight and everything else. I wonder, also, if they reduce drag and improve gas mileage.

What's it take to break or crack those spokes I wonder--i.e. how many curbs let alone pot holes, ubiquitous around Dallas, can I hit?

The Regulative Principle: Samuel Miller gives a succinct statement of this principle when he writes that since the Scriptures are the “only infallible rule of faith and practice, no rite or ceremony ought to have a place in the public worship of God, which is not warranted in Scripture, either by direct precept or example, or by good and sufficient inference.”

Potholes there cannot possibly be worse than New Orleans, which also apparently has some sinkholes too.

Beware of a religion without holdfasts. But if I get a grip upon a doctrine they call me a bigot. Let them do so. Bigotry is a hateful thing, and yet that which is now abused as bigotry is a great virtue, and greatly needed in these frivolous times. I have been inclined lately to start a new denomination, and call it "the Church of the Bigoted." Spurgeon

If they can drive these tires along I-10 from Slidell/Metarie area, west past Baton Rouge through the bayou area, without them cracking, I will buy a set for each of my cars
