Refuse to guess. I have absolutely no idea. I trust God will provide all my needs; whether I be in plenty or in want.

If this counts, I just moved so I'm changing banks. I'm switching to a local credit union that doesn't have ANY charges.

Thanks Bill. I wanted to offer that option for those reasons. What I am hoping to whittle out from folks is if we are in an economic downturn which will affect them personally after two years is up.

I am relatively optimistic that the mortgage problems, gas prices and the general cost of living will settle back down in that time frame.

I refuse to guess,
but I love this verse of Scripture:

Psalm 37:25
I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.

I guess, to me that means, whether I'm "better-off financially" or not, I can be assured that God will supply the needs of my family. With such great hope, why trust in "uncertain riches"?!

I have like 700 bucks to my name. In 2 years I'll be a licensed attorney. I'm BOUND to be better off.

Regardless of that, I know I'll be fine no matter what.

I'm quite strongly expecting to be better off, due to expected changes in personal circumstances. But it will be risky (I'm trying to change careers) so I cannot be sure.

Fuel prices rising....increased needs to travel...and a widening awareness of needs that I am trying to meet...plus hopefully more mouths to feed....... I will be more blessed but less affluent I predict (which often is the case...the inverse blessedness-affluence ratio).

Due to personal circumstances many of us may be better off in the future, but in general I don't see how any of us can be better off. $7.00 per gallon for gas, food prices rising...etc. It's going to be very interesting in the future how we cope and adjust.

The times, they are a-changin'.

In two years I'll have switched from the light side (enlisted) to the dark (officer). And so, yes, I will be slightly better off in the checkbook. For that, I thank God.

Hopefully a word to the wise here! Being retired and strained in all directions by the rise in all expenditures I would suggest everyone go to the ant and plan and put away for the future much more that you even think you can! I'd hoped to survive nicely after retiring but find I'm now dipping into savings with much regret! The savings were allotted to the 'latter days' when help for my care could be needed! When you are young you cant believe such will happen as we tend to live as though we will always have enough! Just isnt so! I know God is my supplier but He also expects me to be a good steward of His provision!

What is going to hurt most of us is the ramping up of taxes that will almost certainly occur for everyone (especially middle-income people with children and mortgages). (but this is bordering on a P&G forum comment, so I'll leave it here)

I am not even convinced yet that retirement is biblical, or that pinching and saving for years and years is appropriate for some later period of life that is characterized by non-work and leisure.

Going to the ant might mean never retiring at all but finding a way to produce and live despite old age.

Plus, present real needs often trump future possible needs... Being surrounded by sick and needy folks almost seems to make storing away extra as a sin, but this also must be fought because saving some money is a matter of wisdom......but HOW MUCH is the question (20 years worth for retirement? I don't think so).

This might be a fitting topic for a new thread...
