What has happened to the “What?! This is a Reformed Board?!” thread.

The thread noted in the subject line has been moved to a moderator’s forum for review. Rich began the thread to make a statement on the PB in relation to the Regulative Principle of Worship (RPW), which is an historical and clearly defined Reformed principle. The discussion rather went off the rails in more than one moderator's opinion. The thread may reappear once Rich is back online and has an opportunity to review the recent posts.

That said, I want to encourage those who have some doubt about what exactly is the historic RPW to which the PuritanBoard is confessionally bound, to review an article on my PB blog here. While there are differing opinions on applications of it, and we freely debate those here on the board, the RPW itself is not a nebulous principle subject to varying definitions. There is the Reformed RPW and there are others that are not. The RPW has an historical definition which can easily be verified in the Reformers, the Puritans and particularly in historic Presbyterianism which has most championed it over the centuries.

And, finally, I think I can fairly say that the moderators have little patience for and will immediately assess infractions for dropping the "P" bomb (calling or implying anyone or group of members are Pharisees). This or anything like it is simply not going to be tolerated.

The Regulative Principle: Samuel Miller gives a succinct statement of this principle when he writes that since the Scriptures are the “only infallible rule of faith and practice, no rite or ceremony ought to have a place in the public worship of God, which is not warranted in Scripture, either by direct precept or example, or by good and sufficient inference.”
