| | | What Do You Know/Can You Do When it Comes to Cars?
A buddy of mine and I were talking today about how much money we have saved over the years by doing our own basic maintenance on our vehicles. Things like changing our own brakes, oil, windshield wipers, etc. It got me thinking about how many people still do that kind of stuff.
So PB. Do you do your own work on your car?

I know how to drive it. I know how to wash it. And I know how to put gasoline in it. And while I have helped change the oil before, and have helped change the brakes before, I am a complete ignoramus - shamefully admitted - if it were to come down to me doing these things by myself. I wish my dad would have required me to help out when I was young so I would have known these things.

God, as a righteous Judge, does it, which ought to silence us under all our sorrows; as many as they are, we have deserved them all, and more: nay, God, as a tender Father, does it for our necessary correction, that we may be humbled for sin, and weaned from the world by all our sorrows; and the good we get by them, with the comfort we have under them, will abundantly balance our sorrows, how greatly soever they are multiplied. - Matthew Henry |

Except my option would be, "Nothing. That's why God invented husbands!'
Bill's you name it I do it. Thank the Lord, we've saved so much money, and so do our friends!

Done. And I added one. Hope you don't mind. If so, let me know and I'll nix it.

I chose the first because I don't actually do anything, yet I do know how to change a tire, check my oil, replace my wiper blades, etc. I changed the oil on a previous car, but not the current ones.

I know how to check the oil. But I usually just have my neighbors or the men at church do all that for me.

Me trying to work on my car would be like me trying to plan the next NASA lunar expedition.

I would like to think that I can do any mechanical job on a car given the right tools and time, but in reality I struggle with the electrical end mostly. I know how to read a diagram, but trying to get my brain to apply that to what I see is something totally different.

I still service my own and swap out an alternator, starter, compressor etc., if I can get at it without dismounting the engine or need a lift.

It's pretty embarrasing to admit I'm an engineering student who knows nothing about cars whatsoever. -----Added 10/16/2009 at 04:16:19 EST-----
I'm just in it for the higher calculus.
