I attended a wedding today (7/11) at one of our OPC churches. The groom is a member of our church and the bride is a member of the church where the wedding was held. It was a very simple and beautiful ceremony that uplifted the Lord Jesus Christ.
The church, which has a large sanctuary, was packed. The man who officiated, the Rev. David Crum, is the RHM (regional home missionary) for our presbytery. He did a great job, though some folks noticed, with amusement, that he tended to stress the pumping-out-the-babies feature of marriage.
At the end of the ceremony, after the presentation of the newly-married couple, the groomsmen and bridesmaids recessed down the aisle to a tape of Steve Wonder singing "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" - with some of the groomsmen and bridesmaids boogie-ing a little as they went down the aisle; again, to much amusement to the crowd.
The father of the groom is a friend of mine (member of our church, and an elder therein). He has 4 sons, and has now been involved in 3 weddings in 3 years - with 1 son to go. I told him he ought to get into the wedding business, what with all this experience he's getting. He laughed.
They are a lovely couple, taking their honeymoon in Mexico (not sure that's a good idea, as the country is currently transforming itself from a 3rd world country into a 10th world country). They drove off, after the festivities, in a blue BMW two-seater convertible. Nice.
The Lord was glorified, the couple are well and truly married, and a good time was had by all - which means, of course, that there was lots of food.
