Want to learn how to sew

I suppose this is a question for the ladies on here! I'm very interested in learning how to sew but I have no idea where to start or what I need. I want to learn to make skirts and dresses.. anyway, I need some help on what to purchase and maybe a good website link that will give me directions on how to start. Or maybe some of you ladies could help! Thank you so much.

I just started sewing. I made these two skirts last week:

Crafty Chic: Easy Sew Skirt

I sewed them both by hand. I bought $1 per yard cloth at Walmart and a needle, thread, and pins. They only take one or two seams and you're done! Now I feel more confident and plan to start a more difficult pattern. (I learned to sew by hand by searching google.) Sewing is so much fun! I can't wait to get a sewing machine so I can do more.
