| | | Teaching children at church
At my church, I teach 5th and 6th Sunday School and every Wednesday night I work with a children's ministry called GTC. At GTC, after the Bible lesson is given, the children break up into small groups to recite their memory verses and to discuss the lesson. I work with a group of 3rd boys. What would be some good questions to ask children to see if they understand the gospel and have a credible profession of faith? How would you explain that believers have the imputed righteousness of Christ in a manner that children can understand?

Use a big ol garment. A white robe would be best. No matter what they are wearing, the robe covers it and they are seen by others as a robe wearer. We wear Christs righteousness as a robe and when God looks at us he sees the robe of his Son and takes us in.

As far as ammunition for questions you might consider the Westminster Catechism. Just reword it to modern english.
As far as a way to find out if they have a credible profession, my opinion is that it is dangerous for us to want to find out. What will we do with the information? Why rush the situtation. I know you might not be rushing the situtation but what I meant was that there is a group that I came out of which focus greatly on converting children. They get the children to act christianly and then lead them to profession and have them believe that they are christian based upon these activities.
I teach children of whom some lead me to think they are converted, but I fight the temptation of taking a census. We all know that children are peculiar in that they have graces of kindness that is not typical among adults. Part of christian character is kindness but children should not be measured on this. I would say as I am sure you agree, we should only measure them on cadrinal doctrine and their [agreeable] love for it. As a baptist, baptism is administered to the credible convert. This being the case, children would not be considered unless they show extraordinary maturity whereby one can make a clear judgement call. Sorry for airing so much of my opinion, but carnally I must admit that I wish I could find out more about the spiritual condition of the children I teach but I personally must not since I am not a pastor.
