| | | Any sources on the significance of numbers in the Bible?
I need a good work, on the significance of numbers that reoccur in the Bible, eg 3 for the Trinity, 7 for the week, 40 for sanctification, 12 etc.
Thanks in advance.

Bullinger has an appendix in the Companion Bible about numbers: http://www.levendwater.org/companion/append10.html
But I also think he wrote an entire book on the subject. Maybe Andrew knows.

He did write an entire book on the subject. It is hideously boring, terribly written, and seemed wildly speculative. He also thinks you can use his theory of numbers to assist in textual criticism. Say a word is omitted in some manuscripts and not in others: you do a word count, and figure out by the theological significance how many times that word should appear in Scripture: then you know which manuscript is correct.
I guess that might be a little more objective than the standard approach of an eclectic critic.

O.T. Allis, Bible Numerics might be of use.
