$2000 to spare

If you had $2,000 to spare; what Christian bible study software would you buy? For example: Logos Scholar's Library: Gold - Logos Bible Software 3.

What bible study software would you buy?

Actually for 2 grand, you could get the Logos Gold package, Bibleworks and say...the Theological Journals CD-Rom, Van Til's Works and the CCEF Journals on CD-Rom... Think big!

I have Bibleworks 7 as well as the Logos Gold package. If I only had to pick one, I would definitely go for the Logos. Of course it is not a fair comparison. One costs $350 whereas the other one costs a thousand more. Each has their strengths but Logos can do exegetically anything Bibleworks can and you also get the commentaries, sermons, etc. as a library. Logos also has a pretty sweet payment plan nowadays as well.

Since you specify "Christian bible study software", I would have to recommend Bibleworks. I have both Logos (Libronix) and Bibleworks and find they both have their virtues.

Logos is great for reading various works, books, etc. Their library system is phenomenal. However, I find it somewhat slow to start up and quite awkward and limited in its exegetical capacities.

Bibleworks takes time to learn. It's complicated and, at least initially, not too user-friendly. However once learned it simply cannot be beat. In fact, IMO, nothing I know of can even come close to it in comparison. The ability to diagram Greek sentences is simply one of its many features. I'm sure that with add-ons you should be able to go through $2000 pretty fast.

BTW, I tried Bibleworks 7 but wasn't as happy with it as with Bibleworks 6.

I am wondering if there is alimit on the times I can re-install Logos. I have some of their software and have been through 4 laptops since I bought it. They have not thrown up a red flag, yet, about the number of times I have done this. I am kinda scared to try and load my Logos on my new machine.

Is Bible works licensed the same as Logos?

You shouldn't have problems with either software having to install them multiple times. With the new version of Logos, they even have license synchronization via a server based upon your customer ID. Pretty ingenious. BW is pretty much off a straight serial number issued when purchased. I've installed multiple times with no problems on either.

Well, I looked over the BibleWorks7 and it did not look like what I wanted at the moment. I already have several disks for my Libronix system, with TDNT - Moodys - Dictionaries - charts - MacArthur Life Collection - and several other things, and so I bought Robert Reymond's Systematic Theology as a downloadable and the D. Pentecost collection on CD [simply to get the book "Things Which Became Became Sound Doctrine"]. I did not think that the $1,300 for the Gold edition was the best bet for my money. It was not much of an upgrade over what I already have.

I am leaning towards "The Theological Journal Library CD: Volume 9" next.

I'm starting to think that Libronix is gaining on Bibleworks. The new Bible speed search is much faster than the old Libronix, and it can be used in the languages as well. Plus the syntax tools (OpenText.org) and outlines are very nice.

Bibleworks is still faster, and a bit easier to use, but Libronix has like 10,000 times the resources. The best is to have both.
