to the PB! Arden, NC! I used to go to summer camp there every summer -- at Lutheridge. Was a camp counselor there two summers in college in the 60's.
And Dave Barry! Is he publishing again? |

Thanks for the welcomes, everyone!
Our church is looking at the OPC. Our pastor and elders have met with them several times and we hope to be brought in this fall.
I have a website - Tateville 2008. On it are a number of my own works and compilations, including one on Bible Translations and Reformed Churches. The latter have I updated recently, but I know it could still be more accurate. Just want it to be bite-sized compendium of the Reformed groups.
Glad to hear there are other Cromwell fans. And Dave Barry does write, just books anymore I think.

Good to have you here, John! Glad you decided to chime in & hope you do so regularly!
Fan of Cromwell, huh? I had an indirect ancestor, Capt. Daniel Axtell, who was one of his right-hand men, or better known in England as "one of the regicides..." I collect books about Cromwell and the Protectorate, and I found out that Capt. Dan was a correspondent of John Bunyan himself... I'm directly descended from his brother, Thomas Axtell, who landed here in Sudbury, MA in 1643. (Axtell was my maiden name.) Cromwell, apparently, called some of his favorite soldiers from earlier campaigns in England and Ireland out of retirement to fight against Charles I, and Capt. Dan was one of them. He was tried and then summarily hanged, drawn and quartered at Tyburn, London around 1660 for his part in the execution of Charles I. I have a transcript of his trial and the speech, giving his Christian testimony, that he gave just before he was hanged, and I have books that show an unbroken lineage right from Thomas to me. Wow -- anyone else here who's interested in Cromwell, I want to talk to!
When we visited the Cromwell Museum in Huntingdon, England several years ago, I told the curator there that I wanted to tell her what my maiden name was and from whom I was descended, but I didn't know how she'd "take it." She asked me what the name was and I whispered, "Axtell." She smiled broadly and came out from behind the counter; she gave me a hug and said, "I've always wanted to meet a descendant of one of the regicides, and I always thought if I ever did, it would probably be a Yank! And now I have!" She took me in a back room and showed me some pictures of Cromwell and Capt. Dan and some of their correspondence. She photocopied some things and sent them to me. The Cromwell Museum was very nice and not that far from London, so if anyone on the board here is going to London anyway, you might want to head just a few miles to Huntingdon and see this lovely and fascinating (for a Puritan, or a Puritan sympathizer) place.
Anyway, I digress and I'm sorry... Once again, welcome!
Margaret

Arden is about 1 hr east of Brevard and just below Asheville; one of the few cities where you can find fundamentalist street preachers, feminazi kooks, and dirty hippies all on the same block!
Have roots here? (I'm a refugee from Panama City, FL - the redneck riviera)
