| | | Just a thought about introductions
Has anyone ever considered altering introductions from the simple equation of:
"I'm so and so, I'm new"
"Hi so and so, welcome"
To something that is more like a typical introduction you have in person, where you actually share information about yourself and others ask you questions toward that end?
I'm not trying to step on toes (an unwise idea for me, as a new person), but I'm just confused about the purpose of the simple exchange of "Hello, I'm me," and "Hello you, welcome!"
Oh, and since I haven't done so yet:
"Hi, I'm Joshua."

"Hello Joshua, welcome!"
In what field are you a grad student and lecturer?

Greetings, earthling.
Did you have less fear about Obama or Hillary winning the presidency? Or to sound less intrusive - which dessert did you prefer, lady fingers or black forest cake?

I didn't really fear Obama or Hillary one over the other. To me, they were traveling two different speeds down the same highway, with John McCain somewhere visible in their rearview mirrors.
I tend to prefer chocolate, so I guess black forest cake, unless the lady fingers have dark chocolate drizzled over them.

If I'm by myself, either chocolate or fruit. Typically fruit. If I'm on a date (as if I do that), then definitely fruit or vanilla. I would avoid chocolate because of its momentary teeth darkening effects and breath malodorization. That might sound vain, but really it's insecurity. I won't tell you why I'm so insecure. (One time as a courtesy clerk at a local grocery store I was helping out an old woman to her car. She rambled on like a mad woman about the superiority of Lindt chocolate over Hershey's and other brands. I said I had never had Lindt chocolate before, so the woman broke some off and made me eat it in front of her. *shudder*)
Health care bill? Don't even get me started on that one. Not because I have strong opinions, but because I don't know where to start on it. I say no just because it's from the government. They're going to mess it up.

Perhaps we need a "Face the Board" forum where members ask questions to persons willing to be subjected to "twenty questions" (or more) to draw out more information about a member.

AMR | Play twenty questions with a bunch of puritannical folks, most of whom are well versed in greek and hebrew and have at the very least a MDiv?

Welcome Aggie.
Are you a born Texan or a convert.
I am over here in Lubbock.
Do people who specialize in rhetoric know each other, meet at conventions etc?
If so, one of our elders does exactly what you do...at a University down the street from me. Know a Mark Gring in the rhetoric professor biz?

Hi Joshua, welcome to the board. Glad you are here.
Would I recognize you from America's Most Wanted?
Do you have a credit card? Can I have your number (PM me, you can't trust anyone on here)?
Who do you think looks more like a male model, me or Rich Leino?
I'll try and think up some more questions.

For example, one dream is to teach at a seminary. Another is to be an elder at a church. Another is to teach at a Christian school (perhaps one I help to start). And there are a few other permutations too.

Hello Joshua.
Mine name is also Joshua. Most people call me Josh. My aunt is the only one who calls me Joshua.
How many children do you have? I have five. Three boys and two girls. Ian is twelve. David is seven. I have twins Hannah and Henry. They are two and my youngest Lillian turned one in April.
I work as a janitor at a cement plant in Clarkdale, AZ.
Do you like living in Texas? I really like living in Arizona. I live in an area called the Verde Valley. We have six rivers/creeks that flow year round through our valley. It is considered high desert. Lots of juniper, mesquite and catclaws grow here.
How long have you been married. I have been married eight years. Over that time my wife and I have grown together in our faith and love.
Do you home school? My wife and I just started our third year of home schooling. It has been such a blessing to be able to keep our children out of the public school system.
Any way, welcome to the Puritan Board.
