Introducing myself

I have been reading the PB for well over a year now and have been very thankful for the window into the reformed Church that the PB represents.

I have very recently become a member of the Free Church of Scotland congegation in London (which rather amusingly meets almost on the location that Wesley was converted) and am very happy to be admitted to this marvelous board.

I pass the time by collecting works by (or concerning) Augustus Toplady and concerning the Muggletonians (a 17th Century heretical sect).

I am here to learn so please feel very free to point out where I am (or may be) in error in anything that I post.

Mike

When heresy rises in an evangelical body, it is never frank and open. It always begins by skulking, and assuming a disguise. Its advocates, when together, boast of great improvements, and congratulate one another on having gone greatly beyond the ‘old dead orthodoxy,’ and on having left behind many of its antiquated errors: but when taxed with deviations from the received faith, they complain of the unreasonableness of their accusers, as they ‘differ from it only in words.’ This has been the standing course of errorists ever since the apostolic age. Samuel Miller, Introductory essay, The Articles of the Synod of Dort (1841).

Welcome to the PB. We need more Brits here and more Free Church people.
Before moving to the USA I was a member of the Free Church of Scotland. Whenever I go home to Scotland I always worship there. I have been at LCPC a couple of times and was richly blessed by the worship and fellowship.

Hi MIke

Have seen you over on 'the other place'. You are not at TRC any more then?

TRC (Trinity Road Chapel) is good church full of good Christians but I do feel very much at home in a truly reformed church like LCPC. I really did not like having a nativity scene complete will a doll in a manger at a christmas service at TRC and once you have tried Psalm singing it sure is hard to go back to praise choruses.

As for football (soccer), I follow Leeds Utd, a now very lowly team two divisions away from the premier league.

This may explain the old adage about Baptists being Methodists with shoes, and Presbyterians being Baptists who can read. To round out the adage, Lutherans might qualify as Presbyterians who drink to excess, and Episcopalians as Lutherans who know when to say when. - D.G. Hart

Without the point deduction at the beginning they would be promoted back to the Championship.

Welcome, Mike! We're glad you're here!

Um (or should I say "erm?") - as you can see by my signature, I'm from "the other side of the tracks," as to church membership, but I'm in and thoroughly of the States and so -- "we're cool!" Right? ...!

We're all very happy that you've joined us!

I echo P19: grace and peace to you!
