| | | Hello - Glad to join you here :)
Hello,
My name is Lauren and Im currently in California [but have considered Portland and love it up there]. Not sure what people usually put in this area, but I just signed up a few weeks ago and havent had a chance to post anything yet in the intro area
Originally from Philadelphia, UCLA Graduate, Christ College Irvine for Teaching Credential after university, lived in LA and taught 4th grade is Watts, CA for a few years, then ended up in marketing [currently]
In 2001 or so, God opened my eyes to His Soveriegnty and the doctrines of Grace and since then not only has my love and amazment of Him been increased, I almost felt like it was being born again- again! Although I know that isnt possible, but maye you konw what I mean by the wonder of His salvation and saving me!
Recently lived a year in London [07 to 08] volunteering with a Christian organization that reached out to foreign exchange students, and then a summer in Budapest ['08] . Still learing Hungarian and would really love to find a Reformed Missions Organization that I can volunteer with over the summers [ job is seasonal, its great, I really think God has given me this job for its flexibility!]
Glad to join you all here and hope to glean from your posts and also to find out if anyone has any ideas for Hungarian missions groups and outreaches [ideally Budapest]

Hi Lauren,
Welcome to the Puritan Board! I actually have a really good friend that has been doing mission work in Budapest for the past couple of summers. I can find out more info. and send you a PM with more details! My friend has loved working in Hungary and I'm sure she would be more than happy to talk with you about it!

Welcome, Lauren. My parents have spent a good bit of time in Hungary, Debrecen to be precise. They are not reformed, but I believe they know some reformed Baptists there.

Wow! Beszel magyarul!!? Nagyon Jo!!! how cool! | My father is from Hungary, and from the time of my birth until public school, I was basically raised by nagyapa , and nagyanya. Unlike you I entered public school unable to speak, very much english. Today I have to use the translator to help me with the written Hungarian, and I have to really struggle with the spoken. Life takes us in different directions, and my Dad now lives in Michigan with my step mom. The miles apart are the enemy now.
I never miss an opportunity to recognize my Hungarian heritage, and of course to welcome a sister in Christ to this wonderful board. I hope your studies go well, and God shows you his plan for you in your travels.

Hi!
If you would be interested in Romania, we know a couple who worked with The Bonus Pastor there. (They speak Hungarian in Romania...maybe everybody knows this!)
If you are interested and serious, I am sure I could find out more for you. Quote: |
Bonus Pastor Foundation (BPF) gives help for those who suffer from alcohol-, drug- and other addictions, recovering people and their families combining social and psychological assistance with the sharing of the Gospel. Read more about the mission and the projects of Bonus Pastor Foundation.
| Quote:
Bonus Pastor Foundation (Latin for 'Good Shepherd' Foundation) is an NGO established in Romania, with a Reformed Christian background.
Working since 1993 and officially established in 1996 in Cluj, the Foundation works primarily in the regions of Cluj, Tîrgu Mures and Odorheiu Secuiesc. With the help of its 14 staff and many volunteers, BPF offers treatment, support and prevention through a wide range of activities: treatment programs, camps, pastoral visitation, counselling, training, public awareness, charity work and local support groups. From April 2005, BPF also offers a long-term therapy program.
