| | | Hello to all from Gator_Baptist
I just wanted to introduce myself. If you were curious, I am from Gainesville, FL and that is where the University of Florida is. So that is how I came up with my screen name. If you can't tell I was grasping for straws when trying to come up with a screen name.
I guess I'll give my testimony here. I was born in Charleston, SC in 1988, and then moved to Gainesville, FL in 1990. I grew up in a Southern Baptist home, and so that is where I get my roots from.
I believe that I was saved at a very young age. I understood the basic truth of the gospel when I was a child, and that was that I was sinner and needed a savior. I however understood this is an Arminian or even a Pelagian sense of the gospel. I moved on to a more Arminian view of the gospel as I got older. Anyways I graduated from high school in 2006 and ended up going to Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and I am going into my senior year there. When I got to Mercer I quickly got involved with RUF (Reformed University Fellowship), a PCA campus organization, and got introduced to the doctrines of grace. I struggled dearly with them, and I really had to wrestle with God over those. I finally came around, though, and finally accepted the truth.
Having been in RUF, I have been introduced to paedo-baptism and covenant theology, and how they relate to each other. So I would probably call myself reformed baptist or a baptisterian as I like to call it. I believe to have a very basic understanding of the issues, and so please excuse my ignorance.
And I am probably already pretty famous on this board because of that Romanism comment I made on the dunking vs. sprinkling thread. All I can say is that sometimes all you can do is look back at some of the things that we did in the past and laugh at your own lack of judgment and stupidity. And again I apologize for the comment.
And brothers, I encourage you to be patient with me. I am quite the infant when it comes to Reformed Theology. I would greatly appreciate it, though, if those who are way more versed in Reformed Theology than I am could just point me in the right direction.

Welcome, McLeod. And no worries, discretion in speech (/typing?) is something in which we all continue to grow (But the tongue no man can tame). We're glad you're here, and I look forward to getting to know you.

I grew up in Georgia not too far from Macon. I attended college in Statesboro (Georgia Southern) and was also involved in RUF while I was there.
I must warn you, though, that I am a lifelong UGA fan, and excessive Gator comments will not be tolerated on the PB. |

From a Native Floridian...
My sister lives down there in Gator Country..going to college..and one of my young neighbors and members of our church is getting ready to start there in the fall.
I lived in Milledgville for awhile, but never became a Bulldog fan...
Gainesville is just down the road about an hour from us..

Welcome McLeod!
Having been a very proud BAPTIST with similar views as you are exploring right now I understand. I am an 1992 alumnus of Bob Jones Univeristy in Greenville, SC and wrote a letter to Bob Jones III criticizing the school's non denominational stance and lack of pride in their Baptist Heritage. Little did I know at the time only a year later I would become a Calvinist and eventually a few years after graduating Reformed and Presbyterian.
Nothing wrong with understanding and appreciating your Baptist heritage but you'll find we are a homogenous group of Reformed folks with Baptist and Presbyterian distinctives.
