Hello

Hi,
I am very new, but wanted to say Hi. I am looking forward to growing in Christ and wonderful exchanges that will be edifying to God.
I am especially looking forward to going deeper in the word and pursuing understanding to a new level. God saved me a little over 2 years ago. Up until that time, I was an Atheist. Part of my understanding and leaning towards reformed theology has to do with my not believing in God and then believing in God overnight, which can only be explained as God calling me and giving me faith, as I had none previously.
I am anticipating a deeper understanding of reformed Theology, without being labeled a heretic or having my, albeit elementary, views attacked repeatedly by other Christians who have a skewed understanding of reformed theology.
I am praying for more truth and am trusting God will provide it here. Thank you for allowing me to join.

blessings,

Todd

Well I don't know how you will be able to go about avoiding having people attack you, that kind of goes with being a faithful Christian.
2 Tim 3: 12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
NKJV

But its great that you recognize the sovereignty of god in your salvation and are on a good path of instruction. Hope you found a good church

Enjoy the shared ideas out here. You can really learn a lot reading many of the posts. And don't mind that it gets a bit emotional at times. Some are highly educated brothers here and highly opinionated and extremely passionate for God and truth. But hopefully we all respect each other and accept each other even if we do debate intensely as a means of getting to the truth and uncovering errors so common in the church today.

A little more persecution may clean us up a bit and unite us.

Welcome aboard, Todd!

Just out of curiosity, would you say you were an "intellectual atheist"--you thought you didn't believe in God based on [pseudo-]logical arguments--or a "feels-good atheist"--you didn't want to believe in God because it made you feel free? Or a combination of both?

I'd say intellectual atheist. Although not scientifically adept, I have an understanding of biology and the general sciences.
I'd say my aversion to God, was the lack of evidence in my own life and my embracing of humanism as probably a truer concept than God in a post-modernistic society.
Of course, like Paul, when God speaks to you, it's either obey or lie to yourself and wait for an even bigger telegram.
I obeyed and began reading scripture.

Oh, and I really thought I was a great guy. I was moral and upright. Who needs a righteous God, when you've got a great attitude.

Todd,

Welcome. Since you are new to the faith and new to Reformed theology, my advice is to read the theological threads studiously. Make yourself acquainted with the Wading Pool thread where newly Reformed believers can ask questions in a safe environment. It won't be too long before you can arm wrestle Fred Greco, Matthew Winzer, and Bruce Buchanan (I jest).

I don't know about Todd, but I do know that Bookman, John, sure does. I thought the same thing when I first saw his avatar photograph. Sort of gave me the willies. Maybe he is of Dutch extraction as well.
