Saturate your prayers in God's own words; the same Spirit Who breathed out the Scriptures will breathe through your prayers. This is not the only thing, but certainly one of the important components.
Cheers,

Rom 8:26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

I don't think praying in the Spirit is different to ordinary praying - praying done not in the Spirit is not properly called praying in my language; it is rather a presumptuous human work. One cannot approach the throne of grace but by the Spirit and apart from praying in the Spirit. So if one is approaching the throne of grace then you know it is by the Spirit. Bunyan has an excellent book on how to recognise the throne of grace and know you're in the right place; it's available as a Puritan Paperback ("Prayer"). I think as a minimum such an approaching will be accompanied by inner gaspings of love and gratefulness, an awareness of ones sin as well as grace received and above all being saturated in an adoration of Christ and a recognition of Christ being all.
