Limbo consigned to history books is interesting. Looks like Catholics are poised to reject the doctrine of limbo. To the extent the article accurately describes the process by which this is coming about, the article is also an interesting perspective on the development of doctrine in Catholic theology. They admit that limbo is not taught in the scriptures, yet has been believed by the Roman church since the Middle Ages.
That is crazy. Hey, how about we on PB get together and come up with a doctrine? Just sounds outrageous. Not to mention that the doctrine should be "in tune with the modern age" - although that might just be editorial gloss.Limbo has long been held to be the place where the souls of children go if they die before they can be baptised. However, a 30-strong international commission of theologians summoned by the late John Paul II last year to come up with a "œmore coherent and illuminating" doctrine in tune with the modern age is to present its findings to Pope Benedict XVI on Friday.
