In a general sense he is correct, BUT the old adage, "give an inch and take a yard" applies. If everyone is a teacher, and if being a teacher is such a natural byproduct of studying the word, why the scriptural warning of:

Quote:
James 3:1 Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.
If more Christians took James' admonition to heart the church would be better off.

How about if more people took both passages to heart; whereby all are teachers, each one to his or her station in life.

That's what I meant when I said, "in a general sense." There are teachers with a big "T" and teachers with a small "t." Both come with responsibility and accountability.

How 'bout: "all Christians are examples of the Scriptures"? That is, should live out before men what Christ teaches.

I'm still working on that.

I would submit that this is ALL we are to be, also. I don't see any scriptural command to all to teach - rather, I see stern warnings to those who do teach, and boundary markers around the roles of those who would be teachers. Giving reason for the hope that lies within us, and explaining our faith to others is one thing - teaching is another.

Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.”

Isn't this directed to the whole church?

I think this is the small "t" of brethren encouraging one another in the faith. That is what we do here on the PB.

Certainly agreed... I guess maybe I'm missing the reason behind the question asked in the OP. Phrases like "every Christian is a teacher of Scripture" are too simplistic and too fraught with the ability to confuse and misdirect for them to be useful.

Sometimes I still can't tell the difference between honest questions from you and needling. A child can teach an adult about joy. That is a truth. And it's also a truth that only certain people are allowed to teach the church. Isn't that something that would be basic even for the wading pool? Or are you looking for a justification for women teachers, evangelists, Bible translators etc...?

Looking at the link you posted

Quote:
Once someone has taken the time to study and meditate upon Scripture, they are then most fit to teach it to others accurately, passionately, and practically. Just as every Christian should meditate upon Scripture, so every Christian is a teacher of Scripture.
That's just crazy. Some guy out in the jungle gets a copy of Luke or Colossians, reads it, meditates on it, and now is "most fit" to teach it to others accurately? I've looked at this for 15 minutes trying to put the best possible construction on the statement, and I can't find way of looking at it that isn't chaotic.

This verse comes to mind:

I Timothy 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
