I trust that while I may be violating the letter of the rule posted for responses to the "wadding pool" forum (because I have not been granted access to respond there), I don't think I'm violating the spirit of the rule since elders in Christ's church are permitted to respond with answers to questions posed there.

From a Reformed standpoint, I was wondering what exactly does the Bible mean in Genesis 1:26 when it says, "Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." What aspect of man signifies him being made in the Image of God?

Here we find help in the Westminster standards, the Larger Catechism...
Question 17: How did God create man?
Answer: After God had made all other creatures, he created man male and female; formed the body of the man of the dust of the ground, and the woman of the rib of the man, endued them with living, reasonable, and immortal souls; made them after his own image,
in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness; having the law of God written in their hearts, and power to fulfil it, and dominion over the creatures; yet subject to fall.
Thus there are three discernable aspects in our confessional standards that characterizes man as the image of God,
in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness. Now, to be sure, all of these are marred in fallen man, but Holy Scripture affirms that these aspects of fallen man as the image of God are being restored in believers...
Colossians 3:10-11 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in
knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, 11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.
Ephesians 4:23-24 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true
righteousness and
holiness.
Terry, this is a brief response to your question, but I hope it helps by giving you a starting place in answer to your question.
