Please bear with me brothers and sisters, I may have a few questions, if u guys haven't read in any of my other post, I came from believing Armenian doctrine, and for a very long time fought against the DOG. Used to hold to some of the points before I fought against it, but that's when GOD first saved me, and I wasn't solid in or had any real understanding of it...but By God's Grace lately I have been leaning more towards the DOG, GOD has allowed me to really study it for myself, instead of reading a little bit and being told what they believe and why it's wrong. I had a surface understanding of Reformed theology but really wanted to study why this theology was believed by soo many, and in the process I've started leaning more towards it.. especially having a group of solid reformed brothers that I run with, and a certain brother of mine who GOD has used to be very very patient in helping me with questions (He actually loves it). Plus being a listener of Piper, and washer probably contributed towards it as well lol, even when I wasn't leaning more towards the DOG, I still liked some reformed preachers. Anyways how would the reformed answer a verse like this pertaining to it being used, to say that a believer can loose there salvation??? Or has to make a choice regarding it??? Also verses like (Duet 30:19) I've went to commentary's, looked in my Study Bibles, asked another reformed brother of mine, and can't seem to get a solid answer. I was sent this in an email from a brother of mine who holds to Armenian doctrine, regarding me speaking to him about (1 John 3:9).

The difference between the internal covenant and the external covenant (or the external administration of the covenant) needs to be considered here. Salvation is, indeed, a unilateral pledge of God, given without condition or respect to anything in man. This grant, sealed by the blood of Christ, includes regeneration, the bestowal of faith and repentance, sanctification, etc.
We must also, however, consider the covenant as it is administered. In this sense it is conditional, as best exemplified by the gospel offer: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved. Although God unconditionally grants this faith and salvation to the elect, it is done by means of a conditional offer: if you don't believe, you will not be saved; if you do believe, you will be saved -- therefore, believe.
If we speak of perseverance, we only speak properly if we affirm that the elect will surely persevere to the end. But note carefully the language of Dort: Quote: |
And, just as it has pleased God to begin this work of grace in us by the proclamation of the gospel, so he preserves, continues, and completes his work by the hearing and reading of the gospel, by meditation on it, by its exhortations, threats, and promises, and also by the use of the sacraments. 5.14 | Though it is sure, it is carried out through means such as exhortations, threats and promises.
There are many who are externally in the covenant, and who are thereby termed "the righteous" or "the saints of God," who nevertheless are not truly, internally so. These are those who "went out from among us" because "they were not really of us."
