"The Wading Pool" - Questions from the Newly Reformed Forum where those new to the Reformed faith may ask questions on Reformed doctrine and practice. This is not a place to begin a thread to forward a theological position but is designed to answer questions of those who might be intimidated to start a thread in another forum. Any user may post a question but only elders and those with special permissions may respond.

calvinist background help

Not 4 days ago, I had the unfortunate privledge to hear a person say that calvinist roots began with the hugonauts? er however you spell it. If you knew the context of the conversation to begin with, the quote, "it is better to appear stupid, rather than speak and remove all doubt" would come to mind.
However, I can't really research it at the moment, nor could I say anything when the statement was made. I prolly just appeared stupid as normal

Nontheless, I would like some help hear. History lesson, so to speak.

Calvin was French. The Huguenots were French. The Huguenots were influenced by Calvin but as far as I know Calvin did not consider himself to be their 'leader'. However, there is a connection between them.

The other thing to remember is that Calvinism did not begin with Calvin but, to a large degree, with Augustine. Calvin quotes him abundantly.
