Excellent blog. To the reasons given, I would add: "To increase your intellectual discipline." The Puritans organized their writings in different manners than we do today. Following their arguments can be straining, especially in a sound-bite generation. That intellectual rigor can only aid us - and maybe help fight off Alzheimers, since continued use of the brain is supposed to help in that regard.
