| | | The Sabbath day-A reflection on scripture
After all the recent discussions on the Sabbath I felt drawn to writing a short poem on the subject.
Any poetic criticism warmly welcomed.
That means that any criticism should be formed as a poem Remember the Sabbath day
The first six days God made the earth
and all that dwells therein
behold it all was very good
for then there was no sin.
The Lord then made the seventh day
upon which he took rest
Behold it then was sanctified
and also it was blessed.
Manna came upon the ground
which would melt under the sun
six days shall they gather it
on the seventh there was none
For that day is the Sabbath
Holy rest unto the Lord
Prepare yourselves the day before
but this some still ignored
Abide ye every man
in his own place that day
resting with their families
that honour God they may
Remember now the Sabbath day
to keep it Holy we are told
this applies to one and all
not just days of old
In it thou shalt do no work
son, servant, stranger too
For God had spoken and did want
obedience anew
We all as God's dear people
fall short in every way
let us honour thy commands
we do thee humbly pray

May the grace of the sabbath arise,
as the One who ordained it is good,
and be a delight in our eyes,
His creatures obey Him, they should.
As the toils of this life do consume,
For rest is but an illusion for many,
But the one who ordained it is gracious,
For His grace abounds aplenty.
Those who are weary and heavy laden,
When trials and tribulation doth test,
May find in Christ such sweet solace
For in Him alone is true rest
The commotions of this life doth abound
Of sweet peace there is a great dearth
But dear Lord, I pray to experience it now,
And that the glory of your sabbath not be blotted out from your earth
and...
Violets are blue,
Roses are red,
Remembering the sabbath is good,
And your poem... is "well said."

Very impressed although I didn't think anyone would take my "criticism should be formed as a poem" comment seriously |

David, I enjoyed your poem - it is a perfect read as one prepares for the Lord's Day tomorrow. Thanks for posting it!
