Onyx

Have mercy my God, my heart is onyx;
a mendacious "friend" who soothes with whispers
of right motives and good intent,
a mortal deception caressing my pride.
Leading my ego away to the junket;
a poisonous game of gluttony
that leaves me voracious the more I devour;
a spiritual hypoglycemia.

Why onyx?

COOL! That happens so rarely for me. Seriously the onyx works well in creating the mental image.
