I hereby use my vast Admin powers to ask you all to read the below and seriously consider subscribing to the Confessional Presbyterian Journal. I've known Chris for a few years now and am honored to call him a friend. I know that the work he puts into this is not for money because, frankly, there's little to no money to be found in publishing good theology and this journal is packed full of it. Each issue seems to get more massive and is dense in Reformed theology. Some of the articles have been very formative in helping me understand and crystallize some key Reformed concepts on justification especially in light of recent controversies.

Please consider a subscription. Yes it helps out a good friend but, more importantly, I'm plugging it because this journal is good for us.

I am looking for some good books on political philosophy: such that deal with socialism and its economic consequences, justification of a minimal government, human rights etc.

I've read Milton Friedmans "Capitalism and Freedom" and am currently reading Hayek's "Road to Serfdom"

I feel however that they deal too much with empirical/historical facts and not enough with the logic and philosophy part.

Tips anyone?

Hi all -

People keep passing on suggestions to my wife of "Captivating" by the Eldredges (gag) as the best book on recovering joy and satisfaction in the Christian walk, and particularly in one's relationship with God.. and I can't believe there's nothing better out there than that blasphemous pap.

Anyone have any orthodox and sound treatments of joy and fulfillment in Christ from a Reformed perspective? Surely there must be something out there that addresses these topics in a reasonable way.

Thanks in advance

I had already been planning to re-read Henry Chadwick's elegant 1991 translation of Augustine's Confessions (available as an Oxford World's Classics paperback). Then I stumbled across the information that he died on June 17, 2008, just six days before his 88th birthday. Now I definitely plan to re-read it, in his memory (he was quite the patristics scholar).

You can google his name to find out more about him

For me, another favorite translation of Augie's book is R. S. Pine-Coffin's, from 1961.
