Matthew Poole Synopsis Volume 3 Now Available

I am pleased to announce that volume 3 of the English translation of Matthew Poole's Synopsis Criticorum (this edition includes his English Annotations as well) is available for purchase in hardcopy or electronic download at the Matthew Poole Project. It is the largest volume to date, and it completes his commentary on Genesis (this volume covers Genesis 23-50).

Also available separately at the same site is Steven Dilday's essay on The Eschatology of George Gillespie: An Introductory...

Cougars in California

This is a poem I wrote in 1994 after reading about the resurgence of wild cougars in populated parts of California.

Cougars in California

The sands of desert Zion blow
Westward before the coming storm
See, cougars roam that future isle
Whose suburbs from the church are torn

Broken are hearts of those who loved
Were not, and so went on their way:
Unfenced first the table, then
By law the state they led astray...

Many years ago, before I was married, I read some quotes on marriage by Henry Smith, A Preparative to Marriage (1591), in his Works, Vol. I, p. 8):

Quote:
Beasts are ordained for food, and clothes for warmth, and flowers for pleasure, but the wife is ordained for man; like little Zoar, a city of refuge to fly to in all his troubles, Gen. xix.20; and there is no peace comparable unto her but the peace of conscience.

Michigan

Our family was blessed with safe travelling mercies to and from Michigan recently. Among the places I visited were Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary (including the Puritan Resource Center and Reformation Heritage Books) and the Meeter Center at the Calvin College library. It was wonderful to see so many rare Reformation and Puritan writings. It was also especially wonderful to meet various people along the way, especially Jeff Grant-Wyman (jawyman here on the PB), who was kind enough to devote...
